Since the invention of woodcut movable type printing technology in China, printing methods have been constantly changing and covering a wide range. The most commonly used industrial printing methods today are:
1. Offset printing
Offset printing, also known as offset printing in Guangdong and Hong Kong, is a type of offset printing and the main printing method. Offset printing can accurately and clearly restore the color, contrast, and layering of the original manuscript, and is currently the most common paper printing method. Suitable for posters, introductions, brochures, newspapers, packaging, books, magazines, calendars, and other related color printed materials.
2. Flexographic printing
Flexography, a type of relief printing technology formerly known as aniline printing. Use rubber and soft resin as printing plates, and print with water-soluble or alcohol soluble ink. The initial pigment used was aniline type dye, so it used to be called aniline printing. Commonly used for printing plastic bags, labels, and corrugated paper. The precision of printing dots and lines is gradually approaching that of offset printing.
Flexographic printing is mainly divided into unit flexographic printing and satellite flexographic printing. In the past, unit type flexographic printing was mainly used in China. Nowadays, satellite flexographic printing is becoming increasingly widely used. The main advantage of satellite flexographic printing is the ability to precisely control the tension of the substrate.
3. Screen printing
Screen printing, as a type of printing with a wide range of applications, can be divided into fabric printing, plastic printing, metal printing, ceramic printing, glass printing, electronic product printing, lottery screen printing, electrical decoration and advertising board screen printing, metal advertising board screen printing, stainless steel finished product screen printing, reflector screen printing, screen transfer aluminum, screen printing and lacquerware screen printing, etc.
4. Gravure printing
Suitable for printing high-quality and expensive printed materials, whether it is color or black and white images, the gravure printing effect can be comparable to photographic photos. Due to the high cost of plate making and the requirement for large printing volume, it is also a less commonly used method. Suitable for printing securities, stocks, gift certificates, commercial credit certificates, or stationery.
With the rapid development of technology, today we can directly output on media using certain printing methods mentioned above through computers. The maturity of electrostatic imaging and laser technology enables "on-demand printing" with high-quality requirements for small batches to be achieved.
